Dear Wise Parents,

It is our pleasure, along with the Wise Parents Association (WPA) Executive Board, to welcome you as a member of our WPA. By virtue of being a parent in our school – from AMC through our Elementary School – you are automatically “involved”. Now, we encourage you to become an active member of our WPA by volunteering your time in any number of our committees and activities that interest and excite you throughout the year.

Our collective dedication and commitment of time and energy makes our community even stronger, while benefiting our school in a multitude of ways. Together, we work hard to accomplish our goals: to build community, support the faculty and administration, inspire others to become actively involved, and to raise funds through specific fundraising events to benefit our school.

Above all else, we are here for you – whether you have a question about the school, want to get more involved, but don’t know where to start, are looking to make another friend in our community, or anything else. Please do not hesitate to reach out to us at any time.

The Wise Parents Association oversees a variety of events and programs throughout the school year designed to build community, create social opportunities for parents and students, and to fundraise for the benefit of our school and, therefore, our children.

These activities include:

  • Back to Wise – a back-to-school event at the end of summer.
  • Parent Wise – a parent education series welcoming speakers on a variety of relevant and interesting topics throughout the year.
  • Party Book – a catalog of parties hosted by parents in our community to raise money through guests’  attendance at these parties. Parties vary from year to year, but include fitness and sport-oriented parties, sushi nights, dinner at local hotspots, holiday celebrations, and much more!
  • Holiday Boutique – a day of shopping, food, community, and fun with over 50 vendors selling a variety of products and goods.
  • Book Fair – our annual, week-long celebration of books, where students and parents can shop a wide selection of books and toys.
  • Purim Carnival – the best carnival in town to celebrate Purim – with games, rides, food, DJ, and much more!
  • Mitzvah Day – this is a day for performing mitzvot and doing our small part to repair the world as a community.

Communications

Are you a social media pro? Have you mastered every filter and how to make awesome Instagram stories? If so, this position is for you! Help us capture all of the amazing things the WPA does on social media.

Do you have a love of learning even as an adult?  Help plan our Parent Wise Speaker Series for the year by brainstorming, researching, contacting, and booking our speakers on a variety of topics.

If you are organized and responsible and want to be a liaison between your teacher and fellow parents, consider becoming a room parent!

Community Building

Kick off the school year with a fun and relaxing back-to-school Shabbat. You will help create this wonderful event with food, decor, and your creativity.

Want to be a part of planning a year full of fun parties, experiences, and ways to bring our parents and students together? The Party Book committee works to create and promote the parties, encouraging our Wise Families to take advantage of these special opportunities to connect with new and familiar faces!

We have the best boutique in town! Plan this day-long community builder and opportunity to shop for a cause with fabulous vendors and food that will have our community checking all the items off their shopping lists!

The Purim Carnival is hands down the largest and most fun and attended fundraising events of the year! Working alongside our Director of Events, we are looking for a committee to work with our chairs in the following areas:

  • Bake Sale – Set up treats for the most popular booth at the carnival.
  • Décor – Leave your mark! Use your creativity to jazz up the carnival; the possibilities are unlimited.
  • Food – What will be on the menu this year? Hot dogs, hamburgers, falafels…?
  • Prize Booth – Obtain prizes and organize the prized Prize Booth, then watch the kids’ happy faces as they turn in win tickets.
  • Rides and Games – Help select an array of rides and games for the community to enjoy.
  • Sponsorship – Create opportunities for school and temple families to help underwrite the cost of the carnival.
  • Ticket Sales – Create opportunities ahead of time to promote the carnival and sell tickets to the event.
  • Volunteer – Each year the success of our carnival is owed to the parent volunteers. Help organize the wonderful families who step up to offer a couple of hours of their time at the carnival.

Do you love party planning? Help coordinate our grade level socials by working with hosts and food vendors to make sure that these wonderful community builders run smoothly!

School Events

Welcome the newest members of our Elementary School on an afternoon a few days before school starts. Plan an ice cream social that will leave smiles, sprinkles, and fudge all over their sweet faces.

Fellow Wise parents working together to plan a special morning for grandparents, uncles and aunts or that special someone in our children’s lives.

Celebrate literature and be part of the team that puts together the most wonderful Book Fair in town! There are a myriad of ways to contribute, from curating a genre, to set-up, restocking, and working the register. What will you do?

The day we get to thank all the Wise Elementary School teachers and staff for the wonderful job they do every single day. A beautiful luncheon is planned for the teachers and staff to enjoy. This event is usually preceded by a teacher appreciation week, where different goodies are planned for our teachers to enjoy everyday.

Parents of 4th, 5th and 6th Graders help celebrate our athletes in style at the annual Wildcats Award Ceremony. The committee’s work will be rewarded with the cheers from our Wildcat athletes.

Do you have fond memories of your own Field Day? Help create the same great memories for our K-6 students. Assist the P.E. staff in organizing the festivities for this athletic event in June.

Celebrate 6th Grade graduation in style and join with parents of 6th Graders to help put together a fun event for the lucky graduates.

Social Justice

Make a difference in the lives of nearly 1.5 million people in our neighborhoods that experience food insecurity and one in four children under the age of 18 that are at risk for hunger by helping to coordinate the collection of non-perishable foods for the LA SOVA distribution centers. Help raise both food and monetary donations by taking part in the Wise School Passover Market and help raise greater awareness in our school for the most imperiled in our Los Angeles community.

Make a difference in the lives of the less fortunate by working closely with Temple Social Action leaders and Wise School Judaic Studies teachers on various grade level ’Chesed’ projects throughout the year from LA Family Housing, Homes for Heroes, and the Israel Sport Center for the Disabled. End the year with an exhilarating 6th grade vs teacher/parent basketball tournament to raise money for your project.

Help grow our Temple’s caring community. Support Wise School families in times of crisis and joy by writing a note, sending home a teddy bear, or arranging a hot meal.

Parents help support the children of Beit Issie Shapiro, an educational and medical facility in Israel for children with special needs, coordinating creative fundraising activities such as farmers markets and Cycle for Smiles events.

Live your values (and make the world a better place) with Wise Sustainability. This year our focus is Wise recycling programs for students, water conservation through California Native landscaping, and promoting our popular Gently Used Uniforms Program! Help us plan Wise campus grade level service days for students and families, promote student leadership and peer education outside the classroom, and keep our uniforms out of the landfill a bit longer. We are excited to have you join our passionate group!

School Services

Coordinate our Challah and Yogurt program by making deliveries, labels, and helping promote sales.

What’s cooler than Wise apparel and products? Help coordinate the sale and distribution of school sweatshirts, polo shirts, and other must have items throughout the school year.

Help sort and organize items in the Lost and Found for easy retrieval. You’ll have parents thanking you all year long.

This job entails printing birthday cards for each birthday child during their birthday month celebration on the last Friday of each month. You will also organize the birthday treats that are sent to every class for the monthly birthday celebration on the last Friday of each month.

It takes a team to put together a beautiful K-6th grade yearbook. Work closely with other Wise parents to make the book an exceptional keepsake for our kids.

Great opportunity to capture priceless moments throughout the school year at various classroom and grade level events. Photos are collected, passed on to the overall chair and used in the school yearbook. Duties are ongoing throughout the school year. The use of digital photography preferred. (We are looking for one overall chair and two historians for each grade K-6th.)

What would WPA meetings or informational gatherings be without great food? Help create a spread that would bring a smile to all our faces. (EC and K-6 Chairs needed)

Aaron Milken Center

Take part in planning and facilitating a morning book fair event. Coordinate with the librarian and book fair chairs for a fun-filled evening of story time, pizza, and pajamas.

In celebration of our Wise EC teachers, administration and school staff, parents will help coordinate a wonderful off-campus event honoring their dedication and hard work. This event is usually preceded by a teacher appreciation week, where different goodies are planned for our teachers to enjoy everyday.

Parents, it’s time to get creative! Help create a magical celebration for our Pre-K children graduating preschool. This committee will put together all aspects of the celebration.

Take the lead in creating the incredible keepsake of your child’s last year at the AMC. The yearbook is one of the most treasured items to come out of your child’s preschool years. Previous graphic design experience isn’t necessary, as the program has templates and fun design options from which to choose.

We want to make all families feel welcome from the moment they are accepted to Wise School. Play an important role in crafting that experience for families with the EC administration.

Meetings will briefly cover information about upcoming programs and events, as well as important updates from school administrators. Informed and engaged parents help create our strong and vibrant community at Wise.
