Wise School Odyssey of the Mind Team Going to World Finals!
Competing in Division 1 in the California State tournament the last weekend in March, the Wise School Odyssey of the Mind team moves on again — this time to the 2015 World Finals at Michigan State University on May 20-23. Congratulations to the team for this impressive accomplishment and to their coaches — Diamond Summerville, Rachel Mitzman, Bethany Spielberg, Jason Meth!
What is Odyssey of the Mind?
Each year, Wise School participates in an international problem-solving competition called Odyssey of the Mind. Teams of seven students from around the country and the world choose a problem with a long list of criteria and develop a creative solution to the problem.
The “solution” typically culminates in a one-of-a-kind performance that demonstrates not only how the students meet this criteria, but their creativity, teamwork, problem solving skills, artistic abilities, engineering aptitude, costuming preferences, and acting talents. All of the work must be accomplished by the children, as there may be no adult participation — only the guidance of an adult coach.
On February 28, 2015, Wise School sent three teams to the regional Odyssey of the Mind tournament in San Marino, CA. Our youngest team placed fifth in their division, while Wise School also had two teams place second in the region, earning the privilege of representing our region and our school at the State Tournament later this year in Riverside, CA. These students will have the opportunity to present their solution along with the state’s most elite teams. We wish them luck as they continue their Odyssey!
