Dear Wise Parents,
We hope you enjoyed the long weekend with your families. On Tuesday, our faculty had a very productive Professional Development Day featuring our work with Dr. Sandra Kaplan from USC. Each grade level reviewed their first semester Wise Learning Process goals with an administrator, demonstrating ever higher levels of critical and creative thinking skills. We look forward to sharing our new learning with you and your students in the upcoming months.
This week we have one all-school email. Please be sure to read for important updates from both your grade level as well as Wise School. It’s getting to be a busy time of year: Yearbooks are on sale, the Purim Carnival is approaching, and mark your calendars for Parent/Teacher Conferences (sign-ups coming Monday).

Reduce, Reuse, Recycle | Submit Your PSA by Feb 24 | socialju[email protected]
Earlier this month we launched our Reduce, Reuse, Recycle Campaign, focusing on how we can eliminate waste at Wise School. With the help of our WPA Tikkun Olam Committee, we will be equipping each classroom with a properly labeled paper and plastic recycling bin for our students to use. We are also making recycling fun! We are calling on our Wise students to make and submit a 30 second Public Service Announcement (PSA) about how you and your family Reduces, Reuses, and Recycles at home. We will feature the Wise PSAs during a Monday morning assembly in March (date TBD). Please send your PSAs to [email protected] by Friday, February 24th. We can’t wait to see all the ways in which you and your family are helping to make our world a cleaner, more sustainable environment!

While usually an established and habituated action that requires very little concentration, walking is a great way to integrate Mindfulness into your everyday life. Over the past couple of weeks, many classes have gone on Mindful walks, cultivating present awareness to movement. Students have enjoyed taking their Mindfulness practice out of the classroom and into the great outdoors. The students have come to realize how Mindful walking can strengthen concentration and focus, and how it can help release worries or concerns about the past and future. Some were even inspired by creativity and new ideas. Mindfulness practice continues to deepen from the environment within and without.
