All School News – April 27, 2017

Dear Wise School Families,

Welcome back! I hope you and your families had a beautiful Passover together and a restful Spring Break.

We are in the final stretch of the school year and it will be busy and exciting! Just this past Monday, our 6th grade Israel Delegates traveled with Rabbi Yoshi, Rabbi Knobel, Mrs. Clement, and Ms. Kleinman to visit the Elharizi School in Tel Aviv for Yom Ha’Atzmaut. They are participants in this year’s Twinning Program co-sponsored by the Jewish Federation of Greater Los Angeles. As I’m sure you remember, the delegates from Elharizi School visited Wise this past Sukkot and they are now hosting our students. We look forward to sharing their meaningful experience with you.

Your students are working hard as they prepare for Open House on Wednesday, May 17th. I look forward to seeing you there. Please review this all-school email for your grade-level updates and important all-school, WPA, and Temple updates and reminders for the coming weeks, including these two very important reminders from the WPA:

The Wise School Gala is Saturday, May 6th at 7pm. Please join me and my husband, Robert, for a special evening of celebration and fun. Don’t delay – PURCHASE YOUR TICKETS HERE.

Don’t forget to order your Wise School Yearbook – the deadline is this Monday, May 1st. CLICK HERE TO ORDER YOUR YEARBOOK NOW.

Warmly,

Tami Weiser

Underwood Family Farms Field Trip | Thursday, May 11
Please return permission slips by Friday, May 5.

Kindergarten Plant Unit: This week kindergartners began learning about plants, including the life cycle of a plant, the different parts of a plant, and how each part has a special job (i.e. the job of the roots is to give the plant water and nutrients it needs to grow). Students planted their very own radish and sunflower plants and will observe their plants weekly to see how they change over time. We are also observing caterpillars! Each day we keep track of our caterpillars to see how they change and go through each stage of their life cycle.

Math: In math, kindergartners are learning how to combine sets of numbers to make a total number. We have been finding all the different ways to make the numbers 5-10. Students know that 6 and 4 is 10, and that 5 and 5 is 10. Ask your child to tell you all the different ways to make 9. They also used five-frames and ten-frames to make numbers to 20.
